Profile

I enrolled at Erskine in the fall of 1972 and graduated in May 1976 with a degree in Biology. While at Erskine I took organ lessons with Prof. Cortlandt Koonts. I worked at Camp Long in Aiken, SC for 6 summers beginning in 1973 as a counselor and ending in 1977 as camp director. The summer of 1979 was spent preparing for the bar exam and I was admitted to practice in November 1979. Although offered a job in Columbia, SC I returned to my home county of Anderson, SC and began work with a local attorney Harold Lowery. I was made a partner in 1984. I left the firm in January 1998 to start my own firm with Robert King which is where I practice today. I have handled many types of cases including the successful defense of a death penalty case in 1989. I served as mayor of Starr, SC for about 30 years (nobody else in town wanted to run) and I have been a city judge in Anderson, SC since 2015. I did not play the organ very much at all after1983 but in 2015 I began assisting my wife as a substitute organist at the Episcopal Church where she was employed. Much to my surprise I was offered my own organist position in the Episcopal Church in 2017 and I have now served there almost 9 years. I am of necessity omitting many details involved with the above narrative but my experiences for which Erskine prepared me have been extremely interesting and very rewarding.
