The great asset Erskine College provided me was a broad-based, Liberal Arts opportunity to learn from many disciplines with a focus on thinking and analyzing. More importantly, it was a time to learn to work and live with others. I bet I’ve told former professor John Showalter a thousand times that people skills are so much more important in guiding people financially through their ever-changing life circumstances and changes (births, deaths, job losses, job changes, retirement, debilitating health issues) than the math skills used in my profession. “Numbers easy. Peopling hard.”

My four years at Erskine have had a lifelong impact on my advanced education and training, and it laid a great foundation for being flexible professionally. I’m serving the financial needs of people from literally around the world from a small town in South Carolina as a CFP® at Benjamin F. Edwards & Co.. It’s fun, and it’s meaningful.
